About New Orleans Youth Tennis
In the months that followed Hurricane Katrina, it became painfully obvious that the City of New Orleans would not be providing recreational opportunities for its children. We saw the need and through the help of Randy Gregson and the Southern Section of the USTA, we started New Orleans Youth Tennis on June 30, 2007. Each Saturday we provide free instruction to children from six to sixteen years.
We provide instruction for all skill levels each Saturday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am at City Park in New Orleans, LA. In addition to our year round Saturday meetings, we are planning a two-week camp in June and a summer ending tournament in August. Our program is open to all who show up; our first session included over 150 children, and we averaged 75 children each Saturday during the summer months.
We are committed to the long term. We want NOYT to be a permanent part of the tennis landscape in New Orleans.
We are creating a new generation of tennis players in New Orleans that would not exist without programs like ours. We measure success by how many lives we touch and how many children get the opportunity to participate in our beautiful sport.
